| Post subject: | New plans on taxi licences after meeting |
New plans on taxi licences after meeting New proposals have now been put on the table over controversial changes to licensing agreements for taxi drivers in Wolverhampton following campaigns and showdown talks over the age of the vehicles. Wolverhampton City Council had sparked anger with proposals to allow new licensed drivers in the city to buy taxis up to eight-years- old, when currently they have to be brand new. Drivers have been protesting against the plans claiming it was “unfair” on those drivers who had recently forked out for a new vehicle, which can cost up to £30,000, and said it would lead to a too many taxis on the streets competing for trade. But it has emerged that during showdown talks with council bosses taxi representatives have now put new proposals on the table, compromising on a limit of two years. Parminder Sekhon, chairman of the Wolverhampton Taxi Owners’ Association, said they were willing to compromise and that council officers at the meeting had “seemed receptive” to the idea. “We told them what we were willing to accept and made a compromise,” he added. A petition of 1,500 signatures has been handed over to licensing bosses over the original plans. http://www.expressandstar.com/news/tran ... r-meeting/ |
