Taxi driver robbed by passengers

A taxi driver was robbed by one of his passengers in the early hours of Friday morning. (14 September)

The driver picked up his passengers in the town centre before doing a drop-off in Whitelees Road.

The remaining three passengers were then driven to Shore Road, Littleborough, arriving shortly after 4.00am. The front seat passenger is then believed to have got out of the car claiming that he was getting the money for his fare out of his pocket.

One of the back seat passengers then held a weapon which is believed to have been a knife, to the driver's back and demanded money. The driver refused to hand over cash causing the men to flee empty handed.

The first offender is described as being a white male of slim build, 5ft 8in to 5ft 9in tall, with short brown hair and wearing a yellow shirt. The second offender is described as a white male of slim build. The third man is described as being a white male of stocky build.

Earlier this year, a taxi driver was threatened with a weapon and had his car stolen in the Smallbridge area of Rochdale and in June, two local men were jailed for 4 and five years respectively for assaults and robberies on local taxi drivers in November 2011.

We are awaiting further details from the Greater Manchester Police.
