why didn't the driver call for an ambulance and why did the driver not stay at the scene to make sure the passenger was OK ?

Student fractured skull in fall from taxi in Sheffield POLICE are trying to trace the driver of a taxi from which a Rotherham man fell and fractured his skull on his way home from a night out in Rotherham. Police said a 20-year-old man got into a black Hackney cab, believed to be a Peugeot Expert, outside Corporation in Milton Street, Sheffield, at 1.50am last Thursday – and fell out on his journey home to Rotherham. He was with three friends in the cab when he fell from the moving vehicle on Swallow Wood Road, Swallownest, at the junction with Haigh Moor Way. The passenger, a student, fractured his skull and an eye socket in the fall. He was taken to Rotherham Hospital, where he remained yesterday, but there are plans for him to be transferred to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield for surgery. Police said one of the injured man’s friends paid the cab fare and the driver left the scene. Officers want to speak to the cabbie and any witnesses to the incident. A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “The man and three male friends had travelled in a black Hackney cab, believed to be a Peugeot Expert, from the rank outside the Corporation bar, in Milton Street, Sheffield. “The incident happened at around 1.50am on Thursday, November 15, on Swallow Wood Road at the junction with Haigh Moor Way, Swallownest, Rotherham. “The man was taken to Rotherham District General Hospital, where he remains, but he is likely to be transferred to Sheffield’s Royal Hallamshire Hospital for surgery. “In the meantime, another passenger paid the fare and the taxi left the area.” Anyone who saw the incident, or who has any information about the fall or the taxi driver, should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 and quote incident number 387 of November 17, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111. http://www.thestar.co.uk/news/local/stu ... -1-5146866 |

I would be guessing that the chap that fell from the car was drunk and he had opened the door and fell out. i would then guess that the driver stopped and the 3 others who were most probably well under the influence paid the driver and told him that their mate was ok and they would get him home. It would be only after the driver left that the injuries would have been found. |

Sounds more like the driver stopped when asked,motion locks are compulsary,then the guy fell out as getting out ,then paid him,then they realised his injuries. |

Although, it's strange, the cops haven't worked that out for themselves, or maybe they have but are now wanting to hang the blame around the neck of the driver. Leaving the scene of an accident and all that malarkey...  If I were him, I would keep my head down.

You could be right or it could be that the motion locks weren't working and the cab was a bag of sh**e because of the delimitation of the trade in Sheffield (now relimited after the damage was done) which led to lack of investment in vehicles due to lack of fares to go round and dedicated professional proprietors leaving the trade and being replaced with newcomers with less professionalism due to no long term commitment, as to the driver leaving the scene scroll back to the word newcomers..... |

Of course the cab could be a bag of sh**e because the driver has spent 10s of 1000s buying the bit of plastic on the back, leaving him no cash for the rest of the motor. And are council taxi tests/MOTs higher in restricted areas?

Sounds about right in my experience, but should've had his motion locks switched on, unless of course the cab was a bag of sh*te.... In which case he/she wouldn't give a toss!! |

I wasn't there so do not have the complete facts, I simply gave an alternative possible and plausible scenario. |
