Thugs stab taxi driver in ‘brutal and violent’ attack

A taxi driver was stabbed and battered around the face in an ‘extremely brutal and violent assault’ by two thugs he picked up outside an Aylesbury nightclub.

A dispute over the fare flared up when they got to their Luton destination and the passengers viciously attacked the driver with a knife and metal bar.

They stole a large amount of money, two mobile phones and a PDA system.

The 39-year-old taxi driver had collected three passengers in Market Square early on Saturday morning. Two of them were white men, while the other man was black and was so drunk he had to be carried into the taxi.

Having driven to a Luton car park the two white men went into a property to get payment but returned with two other men. The argument then broke out and the two passengers attacked the driver, leaving him with what police described as ‘puncture’ wounds in both arms and facial injuries. The attackers left while the two other men dragged the drunk passenger, who had slept throughout the journey, out of the car and along the road.

The incident happened at around 4.30am in a car park in Hilltop Court, Downs Road, Luton.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment. The drunk black man was located in a nearby stairwell and also taken to hospital.

Det Con Jo Bosson, who is investigating the robbery, said: “This was an extremely brutal and violent assault on a man going about his daily business. He has been left with some very nasty injuries and extremely shaken up by the whole incident.”

Police are looking at CCTV footage from Market Square and continuing enquiries in the Downs Road area.

The two attackers are both white, in their late teens or early 20s. One was wearing a black hooded top while the other wore a white or light cream coloured jacket.

Anyone with information should contact Det Con Bosson in confidence on 01582 394441, call the non-emergency number 101, or text information to 07786 200011. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at crimestoppers-uk.org

There's simply no way they'd even step foot in my taxi without paying up front.

1 - lutons a [edited by admin].

2 - the fare must go £80 plus

I do wonder just how 'street aware' some drivers are? Sometimes the word 'trouble' is shouting out at you when you first see the job.

Its ok getting cash up front in a black cab, I do myself occasionally but in a saloon car if they want it back and want to give you a good kicking too, against 3 of them with a knife too, there is little you can do. I've never worked a saloon car and wouldn't want too. I don't know what this driver was driving but would guess that it was a saloon car.

Sometimes no matter how "streetwise" you think you are, things can turn nasty.Cant tell you the amount of times ive got to front of rank and seen my job coming and pulled off, cant be bothered with the aggro sometimes. You can get a smart couple who look ok ,but maybe had a few drinks. Next minute youve a full blown domestic, try and get in the middle of that and it usually turns against you ! Hope the fella makes a quick recovery and they catch these spineless **** s ,but as we all know whats really gonna happen to them ?

I wonder if this would have happened if the motor had had CCTV?

That said when they carry a punter to the cab, then the driver is a mug for going anywhere.

by getting cash up front and they take it off you would it not change the offence from bilking to robbery?.

Yes all WAVs but this guy was a private-hire
Who picked up without a booking.
He offered them a taxi by parking besides them and offering taxi and they got in.

New or not, that's why there should be some kind of training, training for who are just green and not street wise..... Mind you all the training in the world doesn't stop the temptation to even the best of idiots and there are enough of them in the trade!!
To me it's just common sense, gut instinct and probably something to do with my military experience years ago, way before I even did this job. Nothing to do with any "god".... He learnt the hard way and was probably tempted by a "good" fare, flouting the rules as he did and thought he was on to a winner......
I don't really have any sympathy for the guy :-|

A seasoned stalker would have got it done as a proper job, as usual it's the PH wanting to do the work of a hack, when you start this game, they tell you about the seriousness of stalking. If you want to do street work, become a hack.
