Manchester City Council’s Licensing and Appeals Committee met on 26 November and agreed to hold a comprehensive 12-week consultation and six-month review of their taxi and PHV licensing policies. Cllr Nigel Murphy, Manchester City Council’s executive member for the environment, said:“A review of our current hackney carriage licence policy will take place over the next six months, following the news that Manganese Bronze Holdings, the parent company which manufactures the London style black cabs,has gone into administration.“Hackney carriages are an important means of getting around Manchester, transporting thousands of residents and visitors around the city, and it’s important we get this right and make sure our high standards, particularly regarding disabled access to these vehicles, are maintained. The Committee also agreed on interim measures, and a group of council officers and members will now consider any applications for hackney carriage licences while this policy review is being carried out. "These interim measures are now in place and, subject to all standard vehicle tests, the first Peugeot E7 a 2012 XS model has been approved. Whilst the interim measures are in place, it is important that anyone wanting to licence any vehicle other than a Mercedes Vito taxi or the TX vehicle contact the City Council's Licensing unit in the first instance (taxi.licensing@manchester.gov.uk) We are aware that there are various models of the E7 and other vehicles with many different features and until the policy review is completed each application will be considered individually."
