Taxi driver is guilty of using fake passport to open bank account TAXI driver Shah Hussain has been remanded in custody after being found guilty of using a false passport to try to open a bank account. The 36-year-old used a fake Pakistani passport in the name of Abid Sherif to try to open an account at the HSBC in Tunstall. Prosecutor Peter Cooper told Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court the police were called after it became apparent the passport was forged. Hussain told the officer the photograph in the passport was of his brother. But an expert examined the passport and found it to be a clear forgery. Hussain later said he told the clerk his true name and he was only seeking to open an account for another person. The defendant, of Greenfield Street, Tunstall, denied possession of an identity document with improper intention on October 26 last year. But he was found guilty by a jury yesterday. Judge Paul Glenn adjourned the case so a report can be prepared on Hussain. He said the most likely sentence was custody. Judge Glenn added: "You will stay in custody while that report is prepared as I think there is a risk you would abscond." source: http://www.thisisstaffordshire.co.uk/Ta ... story.html |
