Fraudster Ian Jordison faces jail after conning taxis and dining out for 'free'

A FRAUDSTER who repeatedly orders food and taxis with no means of paying has been warned he faces jail.

Ian Jordison, 52, of the Salvation Army hostel, in Grimsby, has appeared in court again for dishonesty – committing an offence just hours after an earlier court hearing.

As reported, Jordison had been given a one-year conditional discharge at Grimsby Magistrates' Court on November 27 for not paying restaurant bills.

Later that same day, he caught a taxi back to the hostel, and then told the driver he could not pay the £5 fare.

Brendan Woodward, prosecuting, said Jordison ordered the taxi with Cleethorpes Cars under the name of Mr Grant.

Magistrates were told how the defendant has to order taxis under false names because companies are aware of his regular non-payments.

Mr Woodward said: "The driver thought he might be the man who was known to not pay his fares.

"When she got to the Salvation Army, he said he had no money and would take his fare to the office.

"She then said she was going to take him to the police station and waved down a patrol car and explained the situation."

Jordison also admitted enjoying a meal at Casper's restaurant, in Grimsby, on December 2, worth £14.50, before admitting he had no way of paying for it.

Mr Woodward said the owner called the police, and that Jordison made full and frank admissions.

Jordison, who was unrepresented, said his offending stemmed from a lack of money.

He told the court a mix-up at the job centre had led to him not being paid for about four to five weeks. Health problems had prevented him from working since February.

Jordison also asked for two other offences to be taken into consideration, relating to two taxi journeys he took, worth a total of £10. Terry Ross, chair of the bench, said he would adjourn the case for two weeks so an all-options pre-sentence report could be prepared.

"You have committed these offences straight after your last sentence and this places you in breach of your conditional discharge," he told Jordison, who was remanded in custody.
