Woman crushed after falling out of Doncaster taxi

A YOUNG woman has been badly crushed under a car after she fell out of a moving taixi in Thorne, Doncaster, early yesterday.

The 18-year-old from Moorends was trapped under the Volkswagen Passat for about an hour after she fell through an open door of a hackney carriage as it negotaited a bend in King Street.

Police are appealing for independent witnesses to the incident which happened about 1.50am on Sunday.

The teenager was a passenger in a black taxi that was travelling from Thorne town centre to Moorends.

As the taxi slowed down on King Street on a left hand bend, just before the junction with Church Street, the woman appears to have fallen out of the vehicle through the sliding door on the driver’s side.

A black VW Passat travelling behind the taxi is then believed to have overtaken the vehicle, believing the driver to be stopping as he had slowed downm but she fell under the wheels of the VW.

The car had to be lifted to release the woman and she was taken to hospital with serious injuries including pelvic, back and neck fractures aswell as a head injury.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to please come forward.

Anyone with information should call the police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111, quoting incident number 151 of 09/12/2012.

Only time will tell if the door was iffy, or the punter messing around.

But I really hate those doors.

Don't the doors on the vehicle lock the article referred to it as a black cab so was it a tx ? except TX's don't have sliding doors E7 perhaps or VW like mine those doors certainly lock to release them you would have to pull the handle release and pull it a second time

well her christmas and that of her family is well and truly ruined and I would think the police would have confiscated the vehicle so the driver also has lost his living not a happy event all round

Assuming that it was properly closed in the first place.

On mine even if the door was not quite properly closed the lock would still engage and a warning light comes on on the dashboard as well as the interior lights stay on !

Do you think we should be wishing this girl a full and speedy recovery? I wasn't a perfectly behaved and sober person at her age and neither were any others that I know. Good luck young lady, get well soon.

I hope she gets well soon to, I'm sure we all do, Who knows what was the cause of her accident!

The Only Certainty is that it always Comes back on the driver regardless of fault..should we not be offering he or she the same level of future wellbeing as that of the Injured girl.

Yes I agree with you. I was only pointing out the fact that nobody had actually said that they wished the girl well. If the vehicle is faulty then the driver deserves to be held to account, however it is my experience that there are a lot more faulty drivers than faulty vehicles. A lot of drivers in my area don't give a toss about passengers.

Yes, that is quite true, but then again a lot of passengers don't give a toss about the drivers to..... Always two sides to a story..... :-|
