Tributes to a 'lovely' mum and taxi driver

Heartfelt tributes have been paid to a mum-of-three and popular taxi driver who died after her car crashed into a ditch.

Louise Bristow, 46, was left fighting for her life at Addenbrooke’s Hospital after the silver Vauxhall Vivaro taxi she was driving crashed into a ditch on the A142 near Witchford.

The accident happened just after midnight on Saturday.

Louise, who worked for A10 Taxis in Ely and lived in Yarrow Close, Red Lodge, near Newmarket, died in hospital the next day.

Her death has devastated her family, including her partner, Steve Percy, her three children, who are aged 22, 20 and 17, and her many friends and colleagues.

Speaking to the News, Steve, 45, said: “We’re all finding it really hard to sink in. It just doesn’t seem real. I’ve been Louise’s partner for around two years but have known her for around 30 years. We went to school together and grew up together.

“She was working when the accident happened but nobody knows what actually happened, the police are investigating.

“Louise was just the nicest person ever – she’d do anything for anyone and life won’t be the same without her.

“I was by her side when she died in hospital. It’s so hard to think I’ll never see her again.”

Louise, known to many as Lou, was well known in the Ely and Newmarket area, and had been a driver for A10 Taxis on and off for around seven years.

John Skipper, owner of the firm, described her as a “fantastic” person.

He said: “I’ve actually known Lou for 30 odd years, it’s hard to put into words what a fantastic person she was.

“She was lovely, bubbly, and would do absolutely anything for anyone. If you needed £10, Lou would go out of her way to get you it.

“Our thoughts are with Lou’s partner, Steve, and her family. A10 certainly won’t be the same without her.”

It is the second fatal crash on that stretch of the A142 in the last six months.

Mum-of-four Sarah Gibbs, 35, of New Barns Avenue, Ely, was killed there on September 16.

Anyone with any information about the crash on Saturday is urged to call police on 101.

n A woman who died in a two-car collision at Six Mile Bottom on Monday has been named.

Shelley Davis, 30, of Chandler’s Court, Burwell, was declared dead after her Vauxhall Corsa and a Renault Clio being driven by a 66-year-old woman from Balsham at collided 1.25pm.

The Clio driver suffered a serious injury and was taken to Addenbrooke’s but was later released.

Anyone with information about this collision should contact Sgt Paul Tanner in the collision investigation unit on 101.
