The trains are also on strike over the holidays, some cabbies are going to make a killing.

Some Drivers will of course do very well out of this for ONE day and then the tube drivers will be back at work on their 37.5 hrs a week for £45000 with 6 weeks paid hols sick pay and overtime available all OBTAINED by strikes and the cabbies will be back to normal 80 90 hrs a week getting abused attacked spewed on earning zilch all because they wont follow the Tube Drivers who are United Organised and prepared TO STAND UP FOR THEMSELVES unlike the serville groveling I am the cheapest guv! cretinous morons Driving PH and Hack nationwide

It is just a guess and I don't expect confirmation but I would say that some of the London Drivers, like GBC who seems to have his head screwed on properly, are already earning in excess of this and taking at least 6 weeks holiday a year.

Job profile for a Train Driver

There are usually at least 12 hours rest between shifts. A typical depot works an average 35 hour, 4-day week with Sundays at enhanced rate. Sometimes a week of work can be much longer than 35 hours but there are usually days off in block to compensate. Annual leave entitlement can range from 26 to 36 days and average pay is around £37k. Many drivers earn in the region of £70k with overtime, particularly at Intercity or freight depots. No qualifications are required in order to apply to become a train driver though the extensive testing, medical and interview process weed out the vast majority of applicants. To become a Eurostar driver one must have completed at least five year's high speed work incident free. Selection is undertaken over two weeks of residential assessment in order to guage aptitude for learning languages and Continental signalling. The pay is not much more than Virgin or NXEC (formerly GNER)and all companies but Eurostar recruit people straight from the street into the driver grade.

Thats more than a soldier on active duty in Afghanistan by quite a margin...

Soldiers do not have a union looking after their interests. They must rely on the generosity of the British Government.
