A taxi driver had a lucky escape when his car plunged into a canal outside of a pub in Linslade on Saturday evening. The incident happened at 6.45pm outside The Globe Inn, of Globe Lane, when a driver of Skyline Taxis accidently drove into the Grand Union Canal after dropping off customers for their Christmas party at the pub.

Police and ambulance services attended the scene after they were informed by the fire service of the incident. Bedforshire police say no persons were trapped, the vehicle was fully submerged upon arrival and that no further action will be taken.

The Globe Inn had posted a picture of the taxi in the canal on their facebook page, which prompted a huge response from people on the social networking site. The picture has since been removed, as well as The Globe Inn’s facebook page.

An Old English Inns spokesperson: “We are shocked to hear what happened and are relieved that no one was hurt.” They also added that since Greene King has owned the pub, an incident such as this hasn’t happened before.

How the heck did they manage to do that ? Did they just drive off the road or was it a three-point turn or reversing maneuver gone wrong ?

looking at that road there isn't room for a 3 point turn but it sounds as if the pl*nker tried it !!!!!

I bet the national papers will pick up on this one

Actually it doesn't say if it was a male or female driver so you could be right grumpy if it was the latter

Unlucky, perhaps it was too dark to see the canal side. It maybe a good idea to raise the kerb a bit to help prevent this kind of thing happening again.

I'm not entirely sure that the curb isn't raised slightly but as it is a towpath I doubt they would be allowed to
