A WOMAN is in a serious condition after jumping from the window of a taxi on Kirkdale Road in Liverpool in the early hours of this morning.

The 23-year-old woman was travelling in the black Hackney taxi from the Wirral to Liverpool.

Police say they believe she was leaning out of the window as the taxi travelled through the Wallasey Tunnel and jumped out of the window on Kirkdale Road near the junction with Smith Street at about 1.15am.

Merseyside's Roads Policing Unit is appealing for information following the incident.

why do these people get themselves in such a state that all higher brain functions aren't working

She will probably have crippled herself for life IF she survives it's hard to feel sorry for someone when they have brought it upon themselves

She may well have been when they set off.
If she's over 14, it's her responsibility, not the drivers.

Idiotic knee jerk remarks on here..and yes the taxi doors are locked automatically.

How do you know the driver hadnt threatened the woman..you are 'assuming' she was a fair dodger..thick heads.

Thoughtful comment, one that was overdue.

Idiots Jerrykhan. Or they are simply used to judging people by their own standards of behaviour.
Nothing in the report suggests a fare evasion was behind this tragic outcome. Any number of reasons other than attempted fare evasion could have led to this unfortunate event.
All we can take from it is it could have been much worse. And hope enquiries by the authorities get to the bottom of this tragic event.

I can't believe some of the comments on here. There really are some nasty people out there. Or is it just 'Scouse humour' ?

There was a great man who once said "the poor would be always with us" sadly he never warned us about the brainless, the thoughtless and the narrow minded who seem never to go away.

joibiz,,its not 'real' scouse humour...and many people on here are not Liverpudlians anyway..they are simply mischief makers.

By right, The Echo should have removed comment here.

Enough of the flak.... Let's hope this young woman makes a speedy recovery.

The whole article relating to this incident may well be misleading. Too many unknowns and possibly untruths according to relative commentating above

Its obvious the taxi driving community are on here now...Liverpool boasts the scruffiest most arragont taxi drivers in the UK...a few decades ago they were the salt of the earth you could rely on...this incident should NOT be open to comment on here..

I think the location necessitates a 'someone else's fault' attitude.

She isn't even a teenager. She is 23 and should know better, but alas she didn't know better.

Silly taxi driver did not have appropriate signs!!. Please vacate through the door - do not use window as it could prove dangerous.

Possibly the pervasive aroma of a compensation claim is permeating through the air that follows such incidents as surely as night follows day. :?
