Reports have reached Taxi Leaks today, that a Nissan NV200 Taxi was presented for licensing as a London Taxi at an SGS testing centre today.

It has been alleged that the vehicle presented, did not conform to the conditions of fitness as the door openings were not of the required width. It was felt that the doors were too small to receive certain types of wheelchairs.

This could be quite a substantial set back to the company who are planning to make the model generally available to the trade by October 2013.

Originally Nissan hoped to launch the NV200 London Taxi earlier in 2013 but put back the launch date to October so the front end could be redesigned to look more Taxi like for the London market.

Id doubt a firm such as nissan wouldnt have researched the market properly ? But you never know,some wheelchairs need a huge amount of space,theres quite a few that dont go in a fairway

according to a twitter cabbie who may post on here also(not sure) he retweeted a denial that it has even been put forward for test yet,they were still getting feedback from cabbies.

I spoke with Tom Barnard who is the communications director for Nissan UK. The London NV200 HAS NOT been presented for passing. The comment about the doors being too narrow was given at a feedback session held for about 20 cab drivers. End of.
