Levenshulme minicab driver fined for picking up passengers without a booking Shazad Amin, 28, of Cuthbert Avenue in Levenshulme admitted to plying for hire in the Heaton Moor area, and not having the correct insurance, at Stockport Magistrates Court. A minicab driver has been fined for picking up passengers who did not have a booking. Shazad Amin, 28, of Cuthbert Avenue in Levenshulme admitted to plying for hire in the Heaton Moor area, and not having the correct insurance, at Stockport Magistrates Court. He was ordered to pay £300 costs, £200 for the plying for hire offence, £200 for the offence of no insurance, and a £15 victim surcharge. He was also given six penalty points on his licence. Councillor Chris Gordon, chair of Stockport's licensing committee, said: “It’s illegal for a private hire driver to pick up a customer unless the journey has been pre-booked. "Doing so renders the insurance invalid, not only placing customers in danger but inflicting a major financial burden on other motorists by contributing to the increasing costs of insurance premiums. “This case sends a very clear message to private hire drivers that illegally plying for hire in Stockport will not be tolerated and when we have evidence we will take action.” source: http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/ ... ng-1285969 |
