Taxi driver loses licence appeal A taxi driver who got an underage teenage girl to perform a sex act on him, after driving her to an empty home in Peterborough, has lost an appeal to revoke his licence. Mohammed Umar Anwar (31) of Sallows Road, Peterborough, appeared before Peterborough Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Wednesday) to appeal against Peterborough City Council’s decision to revoke his Hackney driver’s licence. The council refused to renew Anwar’s licence in September last year, in the interests of public safety, after an incident where Anwar was flagged down by a 15-year-old girl stating she wanted to go to Orton but had no money. During the conversation the girl revealed that she had been ‘kicked out’ of her home which led to Anwar taking her to an unoccupied address in Eastleigh Road with a view to letting the property out to her. Anwar siad that he believed the girl was 19 and agreed to purchase vodka in return for sex with her. After taking her to a local off-licence the pair returned to the address and both started drinking. Anwar later admitted to police that the girl had performed a sex act on him. The court upheld the city council’s decision and ruled that Anwar was not a fit and proper person to hold a Hackney driver’s licence. He was ordered to pay £250 towards the city council’s costs. Councillor Peter Hiller, Cabinet Member for Housing, Neighbourhoods and Planning for Peterborough City Council, said: “I welcome the result of this case and the confirmation that our decision to revoke the licence was the right one. “The shocking details of this case provide a clear example of a vulnerable young person being taken advantage of by a person in a position of trust. “Once licensed, a driver is given access to the public, some of whom are vulnerable due to their age, sex or temporarily impaired as a result of consuming alcohol. “We need to take all necessary steps to ensure licensed drivers are fit and proper for the role and act in the best interest of the public. “This result gives a clear message to all Hackney and private hire drivers that public safety is our utmost priority and the city council licensing team will do everything in our power to protect both drivers and passengers at all times.” source: http://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/news ... -1-4814764 |

I'm gob-smacked that this scum-bag actually thought he could get his license back. I would imagine this must have been the easiest decision that court has ever had to make. |

A little more on this today; Court: Taxi driver banned over sex act loses licence bid A taxi driver who got an underage teenage girl to perform a sex act on him, after driving her to an empty home in Peterborough, has lost a bid to win back his licence. Mohammed Umar Anwar (31) picked up a 15-year-old girl in his Hackney cab and believing that she was older, drove her to a house where after drinking alcohol together the girl performed a sex act on him. Anwar, of Sallows Road, Peterborough, appeared before Peterborough Magistrates’ Court last week to appeal against Peterborough City Council’s decision to revoke his Hackney driver’s licence. The council refused to renew Anwar’s licence in September last year, in the interests of public safety. It came after an incident where Anwar was flagged down by a 15-year-old girl stating she wanted to go to Orton but had no money. During the conversation the girl revealed that she had been ‘kicked out’ of her home which led to Anwar taking her to an empty home in Eastleigh Road with a view to letting the property out to her. Anwar said that he believed the girl was 19 and agreed to purchase vodka in return for sex with her. After taking her to a local off-licence the pair returned to the address and both started drinking. Anwar later admitted to police that the girl had performed a sex act on him. The court upheld the council’s decision and ruled that Anwar was not a fit and proper person to hold a Hackney driver’s licence. He was ordered to pay £250 towards the city council’s costs. The decision to uphold the revocation of Anwar’s licence has been welcomed by council chiefs. Councillor Peter Hiller, the council’s cabinet member for housing, neighbourhoods and planning, said: “I welcome the result of this case and the confirmation that our decision to revoke the licence was the right one. “This result gives a clear message to all Hackney and private hire drivers that public safety is our utmost priority and the city council licensing team will do everything in our power to protect both drivers and passengers at all times.” Police have confirmed that no criminal charges have been brought against Anwar in relation to the sexual offence. A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Police said: “We carried out a full investigation, however the matter was filed due to insufficient evidence.” http://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/news ... -1-4841800 |
