Telecoms mix-up hits minicab firm

A minicab operator says his business has been brought to a halt after he decided to swap telephone firms.

Chaudry Hussain has been left without his main telephone line for four weeks after a mix up between two telecoms suppliers.

Now, the desperate businessman is advising companies to think twice before swapping service providers.

The owner of Airport Travels, in Portman Road, decided to switch one of his two telephone lines from Titan Telecom to TalkTalk.

He said: “TalkTalk were supposed to have done the takeover on January 29, but they didn’t and the previous company shut down the line. I have one line still working but the other one took most of the calls and that business has gone.”

A TalkTalk engineer was due last Thursday but when he arrived he said the line had been disconnected.

Mr Hussain said: “I told TalkTalk to reinstate the line with the same number because my business depends on the existing number.”

He said Titan initially denied disconnecting the line but this week it told him it cut him off because he owed £70, which he denies.

TalkTalk said it would not be able to send anyone else out to him until later in March.

Airport Travels provides chauffeur and executive minibus services.

Mr Hussain said: “I have been operating for one-and-a-half-years and I was ready to take on one or two more drivers but I think over the last four weeks about 90 to 95 per cent of my business has gone.”

TalkTalk spokesman Charles Whitney said: “We understand another telecommunications company made a mistake and cut Mr Hussain’s line off instead of transferring it to TalkTalk Business.

“Because of this we had to arrange for a new line to be installed. We are working to transfer his old number and expect to do this by the end of the week.”

Emma Shaw, head of compliance at Titan Telecom, said the transfer was completed as Mr Hussain had requested on January 29.

She said: “If Mr Hussain is currently not receiving active service, we would suggest that he speaks to his current provider as this is a matter for them to address now.”

The one thing you don't do with Talk Talk, is, well, Talk. Great band, loved "The party's over"
