Post subject:  Two news stories in Telegraph.
1) "CABBIE REFUSED TO TAKE GUIDE DOGS

A cab driver who refused to pick up a blind couple and their guide dogs has been fined in one of the first cases of its kind in Britain (really?)

The "cabbie" Metin Akin was fined £165, with £1,233.50 costs.

2) NO BUS RAMP CERTIFICATE? YOU'RE BANNED

A disabled woman on a mobility scooter was refused entry to a bus, because she had not completed a "ramp course"

A driver at Inverness bus station demanded to see a certificate proving Rosanna Proudlock was "ramp trained" (wtf?)

When the puzzled ms sufferer said she did not have one, she was left on the platform and "forced" (sic) to get a taxi costing £20.

Maybe it was one that can be collapsed and go in the boot and the passenger transferred to a normal seat.

Often wondered this, there are not many Taxis that can have a mobility scooter secured, and with passenger rear facing as is required in a secured wheelchair? wonder which way the flak would go if there were an accident? Same logic to babes in wheelchairs. Do we refuse the hire?

You seem to have all missed the point of Jimbo's post I guess.

If the passenger transferred to a normal seat in the taxi, they would not be using ramps so no certificate, if indeed such a thing exists, would be required.

Rear facing may be required in your car but in my vehicle it is front facing.

Simples it goes up the ramp and you switch off the power and hey presto the brakes are on and unlike manual wheelchairs absoluteley no danger of it moving the passenger would have to transfer to a normal seat and put a seat belt on of course

Have you never had to rescue someone with a flat battery on their scooter before ?

Imagine, Mobility scooter sat in back sideways on and unsecured. Passenger on rear seat belted. Lorry then shunts the rear end, toppling scooter onto passenger....

The point I was making here was, Taxi driver discriminates, fined £1,500. Bus driver discriminates, fined feckall.
