Blackpool: Drink-drive taxi driver’s ban A TAXI driver was over the limit when he fell asleep and crashed into a garden wall on his way to pick up a fare. David Waters reversed the cab and drove off from the accident scene but police later found him asleep in the taxi in a car park. Waters, 44, of Sefton Avenue, Poulton, admitted driving with excess alcohol and failing to stop after an accident and report it. He was banned from the road for 18 months, ordered to do 50 hours unpaid work for the community and pay £85 costs with £60 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates. Don Green, prosecuting, said a man who lived in the resort’s Ingthorpe Avenue heard a screech of tyres and a loud bang on February 22 at 5.20am. He looked out to see a black bomber taxi embedded in his garden wall. As the cab reversed and drove off the witness got its taxi number and called police. Police went to C Cabs, Caunce Street, and were given information about the cab’s whereabouts. Officers found Waters asleep in the taxi which was parked on a car park at the rear of Marton Fold. A breath test showed 53 micrograms of alcohol in his body – 35 is the limit. Alan Godwin, defending, said Waters, who had no previous convictions, became cold during his night shift so he went to a working men’s club to warm up and had some drinks there. Waters was on the way to a fare when he fell asleep while driving and hit a garden wall. He then had to get the cab to the next driver’s home, so he drove there and then fell asleep. Mr Godwin said: “He is thoroughly ashamed of his behaviour. He has lost his job.” source: http://www.blackpoolgazette.co.uk/news/ ... -1-5476783 |

If it was Layton institute he went I doubt it was particularly warm in there quite a big draughty place from my recollection I could think of better places to go to warm up Still he'll have plenty of time to curl up in bed and keep warm now ! |
