TAXI Licence Applicants Failing To Declare Convictions PEOPLE applying for a taxi licence in Inverclyde are being warned they must declare all previous criminal convictions or face possible prosecution.
Chairman of the council’s General Purposes Board Councillor Gerry Dorrian said: "Increasingly there are more and more people applying for taxi badges but ignoring the message on the form which states all previous convictions need to be declared.
“Anyone who doesn’t could be open to prosecution and can be referred to the Procurator Fiscal. It is vital that every section of the form is filled out correctly to allow us to make the correct decision when it comes to awarding licences.”
Inverclyde Council as licensing authority is entitled to consider all convictions and penalties – not only those related to driving – on the record of an applicant for a taxi licence to determine if they are fit and proper to have a licence.
Councillor Dorrian added: "I think there is some confusion between spent and unspent convictions. The bottom line is we need to know about any and all offences that someone has ever been convicted of including any admonishments. We have to ensure that people getting into taxis in Inverclyde can be reassured that the person behind the wheel has been fully vetted.”
