Swearing taxi driver suspended

Oldham Council says it expects the 'highest standards'
A taxi driver from Greater Manchester has had his licence suspended after complaints of using "foul-mouthed" and "colourful" language.

Oldham Council said the 21-year-old man from Werneth in Oldham had reportedly sworn at customers and other drivers.

The man, who has not been named, received a previous warning regarding his conduct earlier this year.

The council suspended the driver's taxi licence for eight weeks. He has the right to appeal.

Tony Allen, Head of Trading Standards and Licensing at Oldham Council, said: "Taking a driver's licence away is a serious step as, in many cases, it is their only source of income.

"Licensed taxi drivers are required to uphold the highest standards of behaviour - particularly towards customers and other road users.

"This action reinforces our determination to raise the standard of behaviour of drivers and improve the service provided to taxi users in the Borough."
