Minicab driver assaulted in Wellington Police in Telford are appealing for witnesses after a minicab driver was assaulted in Wellington on Monday. The incident occurred on Mill Bank at around 4.15pm, the Asian minicab driver picked up a fare – booked using the name ‘Nathan’ – from outside HSBC Bank in Wellington. The fare was booked to take the passenger to Market Street in Oakengates. The minicab driver started the journey but very quickly the male passenger began to verbally abuse him. The abuse became racist and the minicab driver asked the man to stop so he could just get on with his job. A police spokesman said: “When the minicab driver asked him to stop his abuse the passenger reacted by striking him in the face. Thankfully he only suffered a glancing blow but the taxi driver immediately stopped his cab and asked the man to get out. “The man quickly got out of the cab by the mini roundabout at the top of Mill Bank and then ran off in the direction of New College. “The man who abused the minicab driver is described as being white, aged in his 20s and as wearing a grey hooded top and blue jeans. The man is also described as having a ‘spotty’ face and, most significantly, as having hair that had a light pink tint. “Anyone who has information about this incident, especially anyone who believes they may know the offender, is asked to contact West Mercia Police on 101 or 0300 333 3000, quoting reference number 418S 250313. “Alternatively, please remember Crimestoppers can also be called anonymously on 0800 555 111 if you’d rather leave information without getting directly involved yourself.” http://www.shropshirelive.com/2013/03/2 ... ellington/ |
