Shake up for cabs and private hire cars in Wealden district TAXI and private hire drivers based in Wealden, which includes Ninfield and Hooe, have had new conditions set by the district council.
Taxis must have calendar-controlled tariff meters on all licences issued from Monday, April 1 and adopt and display fare tariffs within the vehicle.
All vehicles must have a six monthly vehicle compliance check at an MOT test station from April 1 next year. From then, the age limit on licensed vehicles will be removed.
From Monday, vehicle licences will not be issued unless an MOT not older than four weeks is submitted with the application.
Also from Monday, medicals and enhanced CRB checks are required. Drivers over 65 will still be required to have an annual medical.
Hackney carriage (taxi) drivers will also be required to pass a knowledge test.
Licences will be issued only on condition that vehicles meet national inspection standards.
A decision requiring door signs to improve recognition of taxis has been deferred for further talks with licence holders.
