Faults found in vehicles used to carry disabled schoolchildren VEHICLES used to transport disabled children in Hereford were found to have a number of defects. West Mercia Police and the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) undertook a joint check at Blackmarston School earlier this month and found a number of problems. A vehicle, owned by Lyndsay Oakley-Davies, was found to be carrying nine passengers, when the legal maximum is eight. It also did not have a meter, a roof sign, door signs or a tariff sheet displayed and the plate was in the back window rather than fixed on the rear of the vehicle. The passenger step was also deemed to be rusty and in a closed position. A Herefordshire Council regulatory sub-committee heard on Tuesday that the vehicle had eight passenger seats when it was presented at Bath Street offices for inspection, but an extra seat has, at times, been installed at the request of the school. Eighteen penalty points were issued at the time for breaches identified during the vehicle inspection, but Herefordshire Council decided to defer the hearing for a month to enable all information to be presented to them. However, the council did say that it was looking at all options, including revoking Mr Oakley-Davies’ license. Meanwhile, four penalty points were issued to Nicholas Maddy after a defective tyre was found on one of his vehicles used at the school. A meter was not connected and it had an expired hackney carriage plate. However, his license was renewed after the committee heard that there were extenuating circumstances that meant that Mr Maddy could not collect the new plate. Committee members also heard that two further cabs, run by Lina Hussini and Issam Bairkdar, had defective and worn tyres during the same inspection at Blackmarston. Mrs Hussini was unable to attend this week’s regulatory meeting and members decided to defer the hearing for a further month for her to attend. source: http://www.herefordtimes.com/news/10317 ... lchildren/ |

Sussex wrote: Is it me or do most of these types of articles involve buses/cabs/PH based in Wales? ![]() I think it's you these stories seem to come from all corners of the country but all these stories have to be taken with a pinch of salt because with the best will in the world it is nearly impossible to have a vehicle 100% fault free 100% of the time I regularly service my vehicles and at 10000 mile intervals but often faults occur which are not immediately obvious so unless you are putting vehicles into a garage daily there is always the chance of there being a fault on the vehicle because you can check bulbs and tyres but not everything and you can bet your life that vosa will come a checking the day you've not noticed something |
