Truro taxi drivers form trade association

TAXI drivers in Truro have formed a trade association to make it easier to communicate with local authorities and national bodies.

The Truro Taxi Association (TTA) brings together 14 taxi owners so they can "speak with one voice" on issues related to licensing, industry regulation and roadworks, among other things.

Joy Arnold, TTA spokesman, said: "We have been pushing for this for years. We are thrilled to be able to pull this off. Now we are speaking with one voice.

"When they (the local authorities) are doing something that affects our trade we can talk to them to give them our opinion."

There are only four taxi proprietors in the area which have yet to join the TTA. Mrs Arnold said: "We hope they will join once they see what we have set out to achieve."

She said that the catalyst for the move came last autumn when Cornwall Council told taxi drivers it would no longer communicate with them individually. The TTA has a constitution, a board of directors and it holds quarterly meetings.

Wouldn't be too suprised to hear that a second trade group is set up called the Taxi association of Truro (TaT)

Or you then :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I couldn't care less if people deal with me, but I don't go out of my way calling people c***s etc just because they aren't in a union.

You get people on board by helping them, not by alienating them. [-X

Clout :D :D :D :D

Much as I disagree with your presentation on this forum sometimes TT, but I have to agree here. A local association is fine and dandy all the while the LO tune is danced-but as soon a something contentious crops up the mood changes badly. And the only thing then that can help the few fledglings that have formed the association nest is a trade body with a few pounds behind and the legal expertise to boot hard where it hurts. With the losses of legal aid and reluctance of no win no fee lawyers means a rank collection to meet the £1000's it might cost...and we all know where that would be heading...But good luck to the Truro drivers, at least it brings back some camaraderie into the game and is a big step in the right direction.
