Taxi drivers call for fare rises

TAXI fares in Sedgemoor could rise if a proposal put forward by drivers is accepted.

Members of the Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Drivers’ Association in Sedgemoor have suggested the changes, which will be voted upon at the next meeting of Sedgemoor District Council’s Licensing and General Purposes Committee on April 17.

The proposal is to increase the current fare of £2.60 for the first 686m, or part thereof, to £2.80 for a shorter initial journey of 651m.

Additional distance charges could also rise from the current 20p for 163m, to the same rate per 155m.

Fares have not increased in the district since the last rates change was granted in October 2010.
