MORE than 30 complaints have been received about taxi drivers in Wrexham in the past three years.

Figures obtained by the Leader under the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act revealed a range of complaints from members of the public to Wrexham Council’s public protection department.

Between 2010 and 2013 there were 20 complaints about improper conduct, four relating to driving and two fare disputes.

Two complaints were received over parking and five relating to breaches of conditions. The licensing committee also revoked five taxi driver licences during that period.

A Wrexham Council spokesman said: “With regard to manner of driving, we do not have the powers or expertise to investigate these complaints and the complainant is advised to contact the police.

“If, however, the complaint is connected to other matters and is of a minor nature, then we will advise/warn the driver.

“With regard to fare disputes, we only have control over what Hackney Carriage (black cabs) drivers charge.

“For private hire it is a matter between the passenger and company/driver to agree on a fare prior to the start of the journey.”

The spokesman added: “All complaints are investigated fully and we ask anyone who has any issues to contact trading standards on 01978 292045.

A journalist looking for a good juicy scoop fails miserable.

One complaint a month is basically high praise.
