Police are looking for a taxi driver who allegedly punched an 18-year-old in the head.
The assault is claimed to have taken place in the Nisa car park on Durham Road in Gateshead around 2.45am on Tuesday, March 12.
The victim, a woman who had been on a night out with two friends in Newcastle, had taken the black VW Sharan taxi outside the Centre for Life and been driven to Birtley.
When one of her friends got out to use a cash point to pay the £16 fare, she claims the driver became abusive, punching her on the right temple and left lip and chin.
The three women ran off and flagged down a white transit van driver who called the police.
The taxi driver is described as an Asian man in his late 40s or early 50s, of large build, with long grey hair and with a long grey, curly beard. He was wearing a dark long sleeved fleece top and jeans.
