Burnley teenager's racist outburst at taxi driver


A TEENAGER who racially abused a taxi driver in a two-part ‘offensive’ outburst after a night out put her future career plans in jeopardy, a court was told.

Burnley magistrates heard how student Jade Schofield, 19, who had never been in trouble before, wanted to take a degree and would have to reveal the conviction.

Schofield, of Pine Street, Burnley, admitted racially aggravated threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, on April 1 in Burnley.

She was fined £70, with £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

Nick Cassidy, for the defendant, said she had been studying health and social care at Burnley College with a view to a degree course.

He said: “This has had disastrous consequences, as she has to apply for a degree course and work experience which, when having such a conviction, makes it extremely difficult.”

Mr Cassidy said Schofield had had more drink than normal. She accepted responsibility for her actions.

Bench chairman Lynn Kemp told the defendant her actions were out of character.

She said the incident was very unpleasant and said: “We are very sorry to see that you are here, but this sort of thing has to be punished.”

maybe but what if she say how much is fare to and he give bad quote and they get into row over than or put another way she wouldnt normaly say it but full of beer and agitated she slipped

you know what mean ask fare which should be 5 quid and drive say 15 quid and punter say f*& you robin **** etc

If you ask a driver a price and he over quotes, then you go to another one.

If I go to buy a tin of beans in M&S and it's too dear, I don't call the staff racists names, I just go somewhere else.

There is no excuse or mitigation for racism.

I sort of understand what you are saying i.e. normal people don't act in a racist manner without reason, however ridiculous that reason is.

However she did, and the reason for it is irrelevant in my view.
