On our rank there's an old Conservative Club which closed a few years ago, the council have brought it and decided to turn it in to a market place. We have been told today that we are being kicked off the rank for 12 weeks in 7 weeks time while demolition takes place.

Now there's another way (an easy one) lorries could get onto the land without the need to close the rank. They could go through Asda car park without effecting the customers in any way shape or form, the old club wall borders Asda Car Park.

Now the easy would be to take 3-5 car parking spaces from in front of the wall, knock a hole in the wall so the lorries can get through but "oh no" Asda don't want any of it, lets all bow down to Asda and kick the Hackney Trade in the bollox once again.

After the work has been done we've also been told that Wetherspoons have applied to the Council to use the rank as on outside drinking area meaning we aren't getting the rank back.

The usual response from the Council is, "tough we don't have to provide you with a rank".

I can sense a lively planning meeting when it all goes to planning, now bear in mind the old market has just been refurbished at a cost of god knows how much, it's never full on market days, out of 20 stalls there's about 5 stalls selling stuff.

The Council are blowing about £250K on this project when the old market is dead on it's feet.

Any chance Nidge of organising a Public petition, drivers on the rank explaining to pedestrians why they need their signatures...could get a lot of public support in 7 weeks if they think they are to lose a taxi rank...Local radio, press???

Is it Nottinghamshire Country Council that are responsible for the Highways in this area?

Who are the members of their highways committee and which committee was responsible for the changes?

Were you consulted - if not why not?

Who is your local county councillor?

Who are your local town councillors?

If the area is anything like here - your fire aimed at the licensing department is a little off target as our City Council isn't in charge of ranks - that's the County council (who are not in charge of taxis).

Has a traffic regulation order been made? - If not why not, if there is - have you still got time to object?

There's nothing on the County Council website with regards to the closure of Fox Street in the Traffic Regulation Order bit. I'll take a look on Ashfield Councils Website.

Quick heads up on this one, I phoned the County Council yesterday and they said that there was no RTO in place for the closure of Fox Street which is our main rank and if there was there would be a temporary rank put in it's place. This afternoon I get a phone call from the local Council saying we won't be supplying you with a temporary rank while the 12 weeks of work are taking place. I asked them if a TRO had been applied for? They went silent. I got back on the phone to the County Council who again have assured me that there will be a temporary rank in place.

The local Council tells you one thing and the County Council tells you another.

Your county council are in charge of the roads - your local council are in charge of taxis.

IMO - it has nowt to do with the f*ckwits who license you and everything to do with your county council - liase with them, make friends with them, invite them for drinkypoos - and get them to put a rank down somewhere - on the promise it will return.

I would also write a letter to whoever runs your local council asking why there is such a difference in attitude - why are your council officials such ar*eholes?

Write a letter to the highways authority, thanking them for their assistance and point out you really need somewhere to stand and ply for trade.

I have just had a phone call from someone at the highways and she's dealing with the RTO, she put down that she'd like to see a temporary rank put in place while the works take place but the Fuckwhits at Ashfield don't want to provide one.

But Ashfield don't control the highways - just ask them to put one down to get up ashfield nose - either that or write to the chief executive of ashfield council asking why they wont provide a rank - cc in your local councillors

The woman at the County Council said "Taxi Ranks are local Council controlled" and not County Council controlled albeit they're on County Council Highways.

Ok - write to the chief executive and ask why the council are not going to give you replacement ranking space - point out it is neither fair nor reasonable that the taxi trade should suffer whilst work is carried out.

I suggest someone from that area needs to start objecting to every TRO.

That will cost the council and slow everything down.

That will be done tomorrow.
