Taxi drivers in Widnes targeted by rock-throwing yobs TAXI drivers in Widnes are being terrorised by mindless yobs throwing rocks at their vehicles.
Police have stepped up patrols in the Dundalk Road area after all three Widnes-based taxi companies logged complaints of cars being damaged by the hooded vandals.
Gemma Spruce, who works for Key Cars on Albert Road, described the dangerous attacks as ‘terrifying’ and said that drivers are now worried about the effect it could have on their livelihood.
She said: “If a car is damaged then it has to be repaired meaning that the drivers are losing work and losing money.
“The drivers are also scared of getting out of the car to chase them and confront them in case they are ganged up on.
“We are used to egg throwing on key nights such as Mad Friday and Hallowe’en, but this is out of control.
“The youths have no respect and don’t care about the repercussions of their actions.
“They are literally throwing anything they can get their hands on – stones, rocks, bricks, they just don’t care.
“One driver even had his window smashed while driving, it was a terrifying experience and it just seems to be getting worse.”
Inspector Mike Evans of Widnes NPU confirmed that police will be clamping down on offenders and are urging drivers in the area to remain vigilant.
Anyone who knows the identity of the youths are asked to contact Widnes NPU on non-emergency number 101.
