CCTV appeal follows St Helens taxi office assault

DETECTIVES want to trace three men in connection with an assault outside a taxi office that left a man with a deep wound to his head.

The 21-year-old victim, who is from Eccleston, was waiting with two friends outside Saints Taxis in North John Street, St Helens when he was assaulted.

Police today released CCTV images as part of their investigation.

An unknown attacker is believed to have punched him following a brief exchange of words with the victim's friend.

The victim fell to the floor and suffered a deep cut to the head. His friend, also aged 21, was assaulted a few moments later.

Staff at a nearby bar gave the first victim first aid after he fell unconscious and the taxi company called an ambulance.

Several people are believed to have witnessed the assault which happened at 3.45am on Friday, April 26.

A Merseyside Police statement read: “Detectives are keen to identify and trace the three men pictured in the CCTV stills, as well as speak to anyone else with information to help the investigation.

“The victims of the assault were checked over at hospital and discharged a short time later.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Constable Liz Martin at St Helens CID on 0151 777 6802 or leave information anonymously with Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
