Robbers target taxi drivers in Waltham Abbey
TAXI drivers in Waltham Abbey have been warned to be on their guard by detectives following two robberies in the town.
Two passengers made off with a three-figure sum of cash and a mobile telephone during the first incident, in which a taxi driver was threatened with a knife at 1am on Bank Holiday Monday (May 6).
The 55-year-old local taxi driver had picked up both men from Green Man pub in Farm Hill Road.
It was during the journey that that he was threatened and the two men ran off from the car on Skarnings Court. They are described as one white man and one possibly mixed heritage.
A second incident took place two days later on Wednesday (May
, when around 11pm a taxi driver picked up two passengers from the Sultan Pub in Sewardstone Road.Two men produced a knife and threatened the driver before grabbing cash and fleeing via Winters Way. A police dog later followed the track to Skarnings Court.
One suspect is described as a tall, white man of slim build, wearing a dark leather jacket and with a local accent.
He sat at the front of the cab while the other man, of darker skin, sat behind the driver.
He was about 5ft 5in (1.65m) tall of heavy build, wearing a grey hooded top with a black coat over the top.
Both are aged in their late 20s or early 30s.
The 56-year-old victim, from Waltham Cross, suffered a superficial cut to his arm and finger and was punched in the face.
