Yob who spat at cab driver jailed A YOB who spat in the face of a female taxi driver has been jailed for 26 weeks. Joseph Murphy, aged 25, of Willis Street, Latchford, spat at the woman after she was called to pick him up from DW Sports Fitness on Bank Street. PC Kerry Barber, of Cheshire Police, investigated the incident on February 27 and said: “When she got there she was faced by Murphy. “He started to be aggressive and abusive. “She wanted him to get out of the taxi because she didn’t feel safe taking him as a fare. “He spat right into her face.” Detectives were able to trace Murphy using DNA taken from the inside of the taxi. He pleaded guilty to assault, breach of an ASBO and public disorder. The defendant, who has numerous previous convictions including criminal damage, common assault and being drunk and disorderly, was sentenced to six months in prison at Halton Magistrates Court on Friday, April 26. The ASBO was imposed in October 2008 by Recorder of Chester, Elgan Edwards, after Murphy took part in a racist attack. Along with Christopher Crewe, he assaulted a Polish man outside of his home in an unprovoked and drunken incident. Murphy was jailed for two years for the attack, and a separate incident in which he threatened to ‘slash’ the manager of a pub when carrying two knives. Following his latest imprisonment, PC Barber said: “The ASBO he breached stated he could not be drunk in a public place, and not use insulting words or behaviour. “I’m really pleased for the taxi driver because she was only providing a service and I think it was a really disgusting thing that she had to endure. “I’m pleased that the court agreed with that.” http://www.warringtonguardian.co.uk/new ... er_jailed/ |
