Taxi driver threatened with knife in Oxford
.

A TAXI driver was threatened with a knife after asking his passenger for a fare, police said.

He picked up the male passenger at Carfax at around 3.10am on Friday and drove to Ellington Court, off North Way, Barton.

Police said they arrived at 3.35am and the passenger walked off to get money for the fare.

When he returned he threatened the taxi driver with a knife and demanded cash but the taxi driver made off.

The passenger ran to Ellington Court. He was Asian, 5ft 6ins, of medium build, clean shaven, with short dark hair and wearing dark clothing and dark jeans.

Anyone with any information can contact the police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Too great a generalisation Nidge IMHO...I firmly believe most would welcome it...its the "Compulsory" and at completely the drivers own cost that gets up the rattler. I think most of us are capable to do our own risk assessment of whether its worth paying around the £500; then to do it "VOLUNTARILY" Looking at a Rural Driver, been in the trade over 30 years who knows all his customers on first name terms...only does days for that little extra on his pension perhaps...can anyone say this Guy should be made to fork out over £500 from his own pocket for a piece of Gizmo that's never going to be needed. It will not be long before Tachos must be fitted alongside skull inserts with GPS tracking and sleep recording-cos we are Taxi drivers we must all be bad boyos???

If drivers are up to no good CCTV will never catch them at it...it needs LO's to get off their lazy fat ar$e$ and do what we pay them to do out on the street.

ffs-If you told Council Workers they would have CCTV over every desk, what do you think the reaction would be...and if they said no then would it be fair to assume they all had something to hide? (and bet pound to a penny most have!)

Anyone who doesn't is devoid of all human worth and sanity.

Many drivers who I've spoken to would welcome CCTV, the ones that don't want it are claiming some sort of benefit they aren't entitled to like Working Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit.

I was once in a debate with a few drivers regarding the Oxford CCTV case in the Oxford papers and I said the same as above which was why don't you want it installed?

1. Have you got something to hide?
2. Are you claiming benefits?
3. Are you defrauding the HMRC?

The silence was deafening.
