Taxi driver asks to be 'let off' for speeding offence.



A TAXI driver caught speeding in Solihull asked magistrates if they would ‘let him off’ without imposing penalty points on his licence.

Mohammed Ramzan was caught driving at 38mph in a 30 speed along limit, along Lode Lane, near Bramcote Drive, on December 1 last year.

The 44-year-old pleaded guilty to speeding but said, at Solihull Magistrates Court on Monday, that he had always been a ‘careful driver.’

“I have been driving for a long time, I have never had points on my licence. I am a taxi driver and I really do not want points on my licence,” he said to the bench.

But magistrates said they had no choice but to endorse his licence with three penalty points, as well as fining him £70, £85 costs and £20 victim surcharge.

As stupid as it might seem! A letter explaining the circumstances i.e it was a safety issue at stake at the time............will be taken into account. Depending on the "Decision Maker" - no further action will be taken.

But that's different to what the article alludes too.

If he denies the offence, then a not guilty plea would initiate a trial.

However it appears he pleaded guilty, therefore the court had no option other to issue the points.

They have discretion on the fine, but not the points.
