Men wanted in connection with Reading taxi robbery

These are two E-fit images of men - one 6ft and one 5ft - police want to talk to about a robbery of a taxi driver in West Reading.

At about 12.40am on Wednesday, June 5, a taxi driver was called to a property in Weldale Street, West Reading to pick up a customer.

When he arrived, the driver called the customer and was told to go to Stratheden Place nearby where he picked up two men.

They asked to be taken to Tesco Express in Caversham.

A short way into the journey, one of the men asked the taxi driver to go back to Stratheden Place so they could get more money.

When they arrived, the man in the back seat grabbed the driver around the neck while the second man in the front passenger seat, threatened him with a knife.

The men stole a small amount of money and some keys, before the victim was able to get out of the car and escape.

The front seat passenger was black, 20 to 30-years-old, about 6ft tall, of big build with a round face.

He was wearing a black baseball cap, a black jacket with one white stripe down each arm and black trousers.

The back seat passenger was black, aged 20 to 26, around 5ft, of medium build, with a round chubby face. He was wearing a black baseball cap, black jacket and black tracksuit trousers.

Both men spoke with English accents.

Det Con Brian Simmonds said: “I would appeal to anyone who was in the Stratheden Place area in the early hours of Wednesday, 5 June to come forward if they saw anything suspicious.

“I also want to speak to anyone who recognises the men in the E-fit images.”

Call Det Con Simmonds at Reading CID on 101.
