Police appeal after taxi driver attacked and robbedA man has been arrested and police are searching for a second suspect after a Carlisle taxi driver was brutally robbed in broad daylight.
The victim picked up the two attackers on Blackwell Road, Currock, at around 8.30pm last night.
But towards the end of the short journey, say police, the passengers – both described as young men – began threatening the driver and demanding that he hand over cash.
They then punched him in the face before stealing an undisclosed amount of money and making off.
The robbery happened after the taxi had pulled over next to the Durdar entrance to Hammonds Pond.
A police spokesman said: “The taxi driver’s injuries fortunately were not serious, but he was obviously very fearful and distressed by what has happened.
“There were witnesses in the area who have been able to help, but we would like to hear from anybody else who may have seen the two people involved.
“There were other people in the area and they may have seen these two lads either before or after the taxi driver was robbed.”
The taxi involved was a white hackney carriage-style vehicle. The two robbers were last seen heading in the direction of Hammonds Pond.
The second suspect who police are now trying to trace was slimly built, about 5ft 8ins tall, and wearing a grey hooded top, and black track suit bottoms. The man currently in custody is 18.
Anybody who can help police with their inquiries can contact them on the non-emergency 101 number. The investigating officers is Detective Constable Tracey Taylor.
