Drugs are found in taxi driver's vehicle

A GLASTONBURY taxi driver has been arrested after police found Class A and Class B drugs in his car during a routine check in Street.

Police carried out the search of his taxi during a joint operation with Mendip District Council, aimed at making sure taxi drivers had everything in order and were carrying appropriate equipment such as fire extinguishers and First Aid kits.

Inspector Mark Nicholson said: "A drug itemiser machine was used during the search with a positive result, so we searched the car."

Inspector Nicholson said that while they were searching the car, police found a chewing gum container, which contained two bags, one containing green vegetable matter and one with white powder.

"This just goes to show how important checks like these are," he said.

"And how seriously things like this are taken – who knows what might have happen if he'd been driving under the influence of illegal substances?"

He added that they would continue to carry out spot-checks on taxis across Street and Glastonbury.

Andrew Baker of Glastonbury was cautioned by police, and his taxi license has been revoked by Mendip District Council.

Who's to say it belonged to the driver, i'm sure we have all had some strange things left behind by our passengers, :?

Exactly. I, for one, hold on to anything I find (for a sort time) in case it's claimed. I even keep litter in the car untill I reach a bin, rather than tip it out the window. Who's to say this guy wasn't doing the same?

As he accepted the police caution, he must have admitted that it was his.

If he was cautioned then it was the driver who said it was his.

You have to admit guilt to receive a caution.

trade a bit slow and he thought he'd cash in on the festival perhaps but a really silly move because that is now on his DBS check next time he has to have one !

That wont matter, his license has already been revoked.

But round here if they get their license revoked they come to our council and they get one easily so no doubt he will be looking to see where else he can apply
