Taxi Driver Online

Just watched a news report about police stop and search. Negligible arrest ratio suggests this is a police force out of step with Human Rights. No surprise there. As my recent episode with Frank Smith tells, where he is on record as asking "what rights" when asked whether he was going to accord me any within the disciplinary process. The formal complaint is underway.

Anyway, my mind was taken back to the disastrous tenure of Paddy Tomkins.

You'll remember him. He was the Chief Constable who had the bright idea of making Edinburgh into a single police division. All police units could be required to respond anywhere within Edinburgh. It was extremely entertaining, with police cars steaming all over the city with their lights flashing and sirens blaring.

Upshot was that the number of accidents involving police units colliding with the public, cars and pedestrians, rose alarmingly. From recollection, people were killed.

Bright cop Tomkins' reward was to go down in history as the first Chief Constable of Edinburgh not to be knighted. As happens in our corrupt society, he then left Edinburgh with his tail between his legs to pursue his career in a cushy national role, ferreted away into obscurity to await his retiral. More money, and off the hook.

Well, one of the bright ideas Tomkins came up with was to stop and search taxis. And they did so whether there was a passenger on board or not.

The trade did nothing. It accepted it. The STF made no protest. Drivers were asked to pull over and passengers forced into the indignity of their driver being rousted.

However, I protested. Let me say this again. I, alone, under the auspices of Cabforce, protested. But it was really me.

And the practice was ended, when it was pointed out that detaining passengers arbitrarily in the normal pursuit of the lives was a severe breach of every tenet of Human Rights.

A victory then. And a personal victory for ME.

Now ask yourself, all you tumshies on this forum, what would you have done? Would you have put your head above the parapet to protest?

I'll tell you. Absolutely NOT!!!

The reality is that you see the trade as your right to treat customers like a cash cow. You make no input to shaping it. You make no effort to protect it from those who abuse it, and those in it.

Now you may just understand why we laugh at the contributions from the trade imbeciles on this forum. Who spout their personal bile, yet contribute nothing.

Next time you take payment for a fare, thank the customer for propping up the only trade that only exists because of the council's protection racket that protects it. And then apologise for treating the customer as little more than a cash cow.

That really stuck out for me, and not just for the taxi trade but PH too. so many drivers don't care about their trade and are only interested in scraping what little money they can out of itqq

i remember it well jim ,and it was one of your great moments,but then you started ranting on about everthing and nothing,if only you could go back to thos days!!!!!!!!!
