Newcastle bogus cabbie banned for a third time Despite not being granted a licence Daryl Briggs started to drive for NODA Taxis and records showed he collected more than 190 separate fares A bogus taxi driver who carried passengers without a private licence and insurance has been banned from driving for a third time. Daryl Briggs, 35, of Chatsworth Gardens, Newcastle, told magistrates he had sent an application for a Private Hire Licence to Newcastle City Council, but the council denied ever receiving the application. Despite not being granted a licence Briggs started to drive for NODA in the city, and records showed he collected more than 190 separate fares while driving without a licence and without insurance. He pleaded guilty to driving without a Private Hire Driver’s Licence, failing to comply with a legal notice and one charge of driving with no insurance in a prosecution brought by Newcastle City Council at Newcastle Magistrates Court. He also pleaded guilty to a further offence of driving with no insurance and driving otherwise in accordance with a licence in a prosecution brought by the Crown Prosecution Service. He was fined 220, ordered to pay £200 in costs and pay a £20 victim surcharge. He was also disqualified from driving for 24 months after magistrates learned he had been banned from driving in 2010 and 2011. Chair of Safe Newcastle coun Linda Hobson said: “This is a truly appalling case. “The safety of the travelling public is of the highest priority to Newcastle City Council and its partners. The consequences of this man having an accident with passengers in his car while driving with no licence and no insurance doesn’t bear thinking about. “I hope this prosecution and the sentence handed down by magistrates will send a clear message to anyone masquerading as a taxi driver that the city council will take you to court and you will be punished. “This two-year ban will give him ample time to reflect on the seriousness of his crimes. The council’s taxi licensing enforcement officers will continue to work hard to protect the travelling public.” source: http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/nor ... rd-5100859 |

Some operators will allow drivers to start work whilst waiting for their license. I have seen it around here. |

How did he even get licensed in the first place? Maybe he was asked to get that worth less good conduct certificate from his embassy? It's obvious he doesn't want to go back to stanee land, they'll ask him why's he's back? What will be say? |

One did that around our way a few years ago (driver on a p-ercentage) she ended up with a load of points on her license for no insuarance shortly afterwards she conned someone into franchising the business to escape the attentions of the vatSounds like the operator there needs similar treatment from the authorities then they might start doing proper checks |

im a bit confused If it was a company car then he would have to show his licence and badge to the insurance company. Even anydriver polocies must still show there licences. if it was his own car then he would have to show the office his insurance/badge/car test in order to get work. Or do somw L.A not make operators do them check. We have to. If they dont then the local authority should be charged aswell |

They do ask that I keep a copy of them though. I can check the status of any drivers or vehicle license issued by our council online. |

If so you are 100% correct. |
