Post subject:  Question in House of Lords

Baroness Thomas of Winchester (Liberal Democrat)

To ask Her Majesty’s Government why they have not yet implemented section 165 of the Equality Act 2010 which places a duty on taxi drivers to assist passengers who are wheelchair users.

Earl Attlee (Whip, House of Lords; Conservative)

This matter has been subject to discussions across Government. My honourable Friend the Parliamentary Under-Secretary for Transport (Norman Baker) is keen to make announcement as soon as possible.

with your councils previous I'd take that with a pinch of salt.

the equality act is primary legislation - that trumps everything.

The original question 'places a duty on taxi drivers to assist.....Wheelchair users.'

It doesn't say they have to be in a WAV to do it.

It doesn't say they have to be in a WAV to do it.

It has to be a 'designated vehicle' be that taxi or PH.

A 'designated vehicle' is defined in section 167.
