First all-electric private hire car licensed in Knowsley Knowsley’s first all-electric private hire vehicle has been granted a private hire vehicle licence from the council’s licensing team. This new private hire vehicle will help both the borough and taxi/ private hire providers understand how zero emission vehicles can be integrated into taxi and private hire fleets from now on. Electrically-powered vehicles provide many economic and environmental benefits. As well as being cheaper to run (many offer free road tax), they do not emit harmful exhaust emissions and they are much quieter to run. These vehicles can be charged at home, at work or at a public charging point. Cllr Thomas Grierson, Chairman of the Licensing Committee said: “This is a great opportunity for the borough and I hope further taxi and private hire providers may look to broaden their fleet with electric cars. This supports the council’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and to supporting Knowsley residents in reducing carbon emissions in their community.” Minicab owner, George Price, added: “I chose to go electric due to the increasing fuel costs and wanted to play my part in reducing carbon emissions. Given the mileage I cover as a driver, it was becoming increasingly expensive to fill up at the pumps. My vehicle is charged using solar panels installed at my house, so as well as saving money, I am also doing my bit for the environment! Are fares in knowsley high enough to generate enough cashflow to compensate for the lower charge range ? |

There is no RFL required on a lot of new diesel vehicles, like the new 1.6tdi Seat Toledo, that do es50 MPG upwards, the Skoda Rapid is the same |

the vehicle will have a very limited range on one battery charge can the vehicle earn enough at knowsley fare levels to ompensate for the reduced worling day |

Looks like one of those Nissan leafs Top gear tested one, they have about a 70 mile range per charge, and takes 8 to 10 hours allegedly |

Shouldn't need a satnav they should know where they're going, shouldn't need to charge PDA either as that should last for 8/10 hours, the heat should come from the sun and the aircon from the windows and credit card machine  With regards to the radio/cd player it is Knowsley who says it's still fitted to the car ffs

Drivers are familiar with driving longer distances to maximise profit. However, electric vehicles now allows you to reduce your fuel cost at the same or lower mileage to increase profit. The only thing that significantly affects range is the heater in the winter and on a 2013 Leaf it reduces range by around 9 miles (assuming a standard 2 rapid charges/day usage model). |

He has made 2 big mistakes, 1 buying the leaf, and 2 stating he has solar panels on his roof, the scrottes will be up there nicking them |

If it does 70 Miles per charge then thats only a 35 mile radius at best and a 17.5 mile radius more likely. Forget the gimmicks, people have to be able to earn a living before they play Happy Planets. |
