Mehboob Hussain told court passengers jumped from his cab

Taxi driver cleared of dangerous driving.

A Worcester taxi driver has been cleared by a jury of dangerous driving.

Mehboob Hussain, of Perrywood Walk, Worcester, denied the charge and told a trial at Worcester Crown Court the man and woman opened the door and jumped out after they failed to pay him the full fare in the early hours of January 6 this year.

The passengers alleged he drove off with the door open after they had failed to reach an agreement on paying the remaining £8 of a £20 fare when he took them from Bushwackers in Worcester city centre to their home in Trench Lane, Oddingley, near Droitwich.

They thought they had enough money to pay for the cab they had hailed but were short when they reached their destination. They wrote their details on a card but would not leave their mobile phones as collateral and there was an argument.

The 48-year-old, a taxi driver for 19 years, said he would take them to the police station and they agreed but as he drove down the country lane away from their home, he noticed the back door had been opened and they had gone, leaving behind some belongings.

He drove to the police station to hand in the items, the court was told. The following day, the couple reported the incident and said he had driven off erratically with the rear door open, causing them to fall onto the road and suffering minor injuries.

A jury of ten men and two women took thirty minutes to clear him of dangerous driving.

And that says it all.

Complete and utter waste of court time and tax payers money.

What really ticks me off is the "Fact" that an "Actual offense" was committed by the passengers and they were never charged! as opposed to the subjective allegations against the driver.

As a taxi driver, I am getting used to the feelings that the black American, from the deep Southern parts of America must have had many years ago............. You are guilty until YOU can prove yourself innocent...Boy.
