Taxi driver fined after parking illegally in Seaford
An illegally parked taxi driver who refused to accept a fixed penalty notice when she was challenged by police has been fined in court, almost a year after the original offence took place.
Natalie Taylor, 29, parked her vehicle on clearly defined unbroken zig zag lines on the approach to the pedestrian crossing in Clinton Place, Seaford, on August 10.
Despite being spoken to by police at the time and offered a fixed penalty notice, Taylor, of Ashington Gardens, Peacehaven, refused to accept any wrong doing and pursued the matter to court.
On July 22, she attended Brighton Magistrates’ Court and told them she had parked on double yellow lines and not the zig zags. However, she was found guilty and fined £55, ordered to pay £70 costs and had her licence endorsed with three penalty points.
Police Constable Stu Hyde, from Seaford’s Neighbourhood Policing Team, said, “Whilst satisfied with the court outcome, this case could clearly have been avoided if Ms Taylor had accepted that she had committed a minor traffic offence and taken the relevant penalty that was offered at the time.
“Ms Taylor is a licensed taxi driver and should therefore be more responsible in adhering to the rules of the Highway Code, as all motorists should. This isn’t optional and if people choose to ignore the rules of the road they should accept the consequences.”
