TAXI Fare Decision On Hold COUNCILLORS put off a decision on how much to increase taxi fares by.
Inverclyde’s General Purposes Board was being urged by the taxi trade to put up the price by around 10 per cent. The trade argue that fares in Inverclyde are among the lowest in Scotland – 26th cheapest out of the 32 local authorities – at a time when costs are increasing.
But the board was told that comparisons weren’t straightforward as other areas imposed tougher conditions such as having a minimum age of five years for taxis.
The board delayed a decision until their next meeting so that councillors can have full details of taxi fares elsewhere and the conditions and charges imposed by other councils on taxi drivers.
