After months of argument and bad blood over drivers refusing to pull to the front of the rank war has finally broken out after tempers flared again today. looks like a very expensive legal battle is looming and the council will be on the firing line still insisting that they are carrying out enforcement action despite the fact nobody seems to have been cautioned or issued with penalty notices for persistent offending

could you expand on that, what do you mean refusing to pull to the front of the rank?

You seem to work in either the worst or unluckiest areas for hostile drivers that I've ever read about.

Every story you post seems to involve drivers fighting.

Ever considered another area?

The DfT's Model Hackney Carriage Bye-laws state at paragraph 7 [note (c) and (d)];

7. The driver of a hackney carriage shall, when plying for hire in any street and not actually hired;
(a) proceed with reasonable speed to one of the stands appointed by the Council;
(b) if a stand, at the time of his arrival, is occupied by the full number of carriages authorised to occupy it, proceed to another stand;
(c) on arriving at a stand not already occupied by the full number of carriages authorised to occupy it, station the carriage immediately behind the carriage or carriages on the stand and so as to face in the same direction; and
(d) from time to time, when any other carriage immediately in front is driven off or moved forward cause his carriage to be moved forward so as to fill the place previously occupied by the carriage driven off or moved forward.

We have the same problem and its always the same one or two people.

When the cabs move up in front of them they refuse to move until there are five or six spaces in front.

This then has a knock on effect as five or six drivers cannot get on the back of the rank, they then are left parked illegally purely because of one persons inconsideration.

Occasionally a driver who is annoyed about not being able to get on the rank will drive past the queue and into the space left by the awkward ones. This then annoys everyone behind him.

The full impact of yesterdays events still isn't clear but the council seems to have realised they have to step in there are a lot of drivers out there not talking now as yet no cars attacked but i think it is coming

well it is escalating gangsta cabs are targetting my drivers using mobile phones trying to photo them before they can get their cars forward . Today i had one in front of me I was waiting about 30 to 40 secs for him to move forward on the rank suddenly he shot forward at high speed slammed his handbrake on jumped out of car and took a photo before I COULD MOVE DOWN so now it is entrapment tactics !!!!

Get CCTV in your cab, front facing would be good.

Yep. They cost a massive £25 from ebay plus an sd card.

Get a dual front and rear for about £38.

Sounds like a good investment.

Driver in the last incident I mentioned has agreed to delete the photo. Mr roadrage has been embarrassed so maybe he will pack in his silly games as well

in the meantime for various reasons gangsta cabs are very short of cars so they are having to give us half their bookings so they will need to keep on the right side of my drivers
