this is going to be interesting,186 miles between charges (normal car figure the roof sign/meter/radio/computer plus the heater on constantly will obviously reduce this figure)Saturday night is the only night we are making money in Dundee and all the cabbies expect to put in a decent amount of hours,i usually clock up 210-240 miles ,these cars wont be able to do this so you are looking to lose a couple of hours work ,then the driver will have to spend 30 mins at the council recharge point, I bet the drivers will be fighting to drive these cabs http://www.thecourier.co.uk/news/local/ ... e-1.125172 |

Electric cars won't work in the taxi trade. Occasionally you get the long out of town job and are unable to do it as the battery doesn't have enough charge. A hybrid electric/fuel motor would be a lot better Theoretical question Electric car does 186 miles and your cab on a Saturday does 210 miles. 24 miles more. £40 or £50 in fuel for the shift. How much extra do you expect to make in those 24 miles? £40? Less £5 fuel = £35 better off Is it not financially better to work an electric car, do less miles and hour/hour and a half less work but would be saving £50 in fuel over the course of the evening? |

Man that wee leccy motor would be lucky to make it from one power point to the next...

If there were thousands of Convenient rapid charging points that you could use without fear of having to queue to use then it might just about be worth a punt in a city..but it would be waste of time in the sticks where everywhere is just so far apart. |
