Liverpools first ever Taxi Station opens its doors

In Liverpool if you want a bus station we have one to spare, we have train stations and even a cruise terminal.

Now the city centre has a missing link…. its first ever indoor taxi station.

From Friday (Aug 30) taxi passengers will no longer have to wait on street corners for taxis, thanks to the conversion of an old Victorian warehouse at the junction of Hanover Street and Duke Street.

James Bradley, founder and operator of Alpha Taxis, hit on the idea some years ago and was inspired to create the facility by female passengers wanting a safer environment.

James said: “It is incredible so long to provide this facility in what is a major tourism and night economy city. Our taxi station has a booking hall and a comfortable waiting room and the very latest in GPS technology.

“This has been the missing link in integrated transport. We are delighted Merseyside Police has given its full support because of the safer environment we have created.”

James is one of the city’s leading experts on the taxi trade and is more than happy to be interviewed on the taxi station and the taxi trade in general.

The new taxi station is based in Wilsons Building, a disused Victorian warehouse in Duke Street, directly opposite Liverpool One

That said he still allowed his business to be called a 'Taxi Station' when clearly it's a pick up point for private hire

Maybe Delta should have one also to allow all their Sefton PH to rest in-between jobs.

Or maybe wait until the new cab act when all PH will become one big happy national family.

Delta don't need a base in Liverpool, nor imo do they want one. As for James being an expert in the taxi trade I would suggest he's as expert as myself  Of course there are a couple of differences between us that spring to mind, one he's male and two I know the difference between taxis and private hire

perhaps the trade up in liverpool could mount a challenge to legality of calling it a "taxi" station in fact the word "station" implies people going there to pick up a non prebooked PH perhaps the name "hiring depot" is more appropriate

If it's anything like what we have here there will be an intercom system that the people will speak into and some chairs to sit on while they wait. The drivers will just pull in when not busy and wait, it'll be a ph rank :D

Liverpool Taxi trade couldn't mount a one legged poodle . #-o
This was a muted at the planning stage 12 months ago . At that time this new Private hire rank, office , hub , restaurant what ever you want to call it , could have been opposed .
No one was interested .
Unite as usual which has a fixation with Delta . Only listens to any thing that has Delta, in the sentence. Thinks Delta is the most evil thing since Adolf Hitler.

Not realizing Liverpool PH Barons, are even more dangerous . :!:

Amazing how these Minicab operators all think they’re Taxi Barons.

Alpha owner James Bradley said: “It is amazing it has taken so long for a major city like Liverpool to have a facility such as this. We take bus and train stations for granted, but no thought has been given to a purpose-built taxi station, until now. Liverpool has been crying out for such a facility.”

A GPS system will be used to dispatch the firm’s 400-strong fleet to the station and a special lay-by has been created at the front door of the building.

A SPECIAL LAY-BY HAS BEEN CREATED GOT TO BE PH RANK MUST BE ILLEGAL .

Is iot on PUBLIC or Private land ? and will the cars pick up off there or wait for a booking to be sent out to them ?

Might be worth investing in a good video camera and staking it out !!

So..Basically Its no more than a point to pick up pre booked passengers from, Hardly innovative and a damn sight less practical than Picking up passengers from a location of their own choice #-o

"Our scheme involves creating a well-run city centre booking office and waiting lounge where there will be a coffee bar, all overseen by extensive closed circuit television. During the evenings registered and experienced security staff will be on duty for added safety and security.
"I am delighted Merseyside Police gave its full backing to this scheme

THIS WHY THEY SAY ITS INNOVATIVE A BIG THING IS THE SAFETY OF WOMEN
