Rural Denbighshire bus service replaced by taxis

A bus service in rural Denbighshire has been scrapped and passengers encouraged to use subsidised taxis instead after it worked out cheaper for the council.

Buses will no longer run from Nantglyn, Prion and Saron to Denbigh but people will be able to call a taxi for the same fare.

Denbighshire council will subsidise the additional cost, saying cabs worked out cheaper and more flexible for the little-used route.

The taxis will run Mondays to Fridays.

In a statement, the council said: "Passenger numbers on the bus service have fallen significantly and a taxi option is now cheaper and more flexible.

"Bus journeys at school times, however, are not affected and passengers may continue to board these journeys as usual."

Passengers need to contact the taxi operator, Vale Taxis, by 17:00 BST the day before travel, the council added.

Two words you never see together, 'subsidised taxis'.

If the taxis are running a regular service they'll need to be registered as a local bus service. Maybe DCC have conveniently forgotten about that?

I would imagine it's an irregular service, that's why the buses aren't needed. That said there is nothing to stop taxis operating a bus service, is there?

Takes me back a few years them words do.

Round here we used to take Tokens supplied by the Council as a way of subsidised travel for people who were unable to walk or who were under the care of the local authority.

Sadly they withdrew it due to abuse from other operators and drivers.

There are some of these services in Leicestershire. The do run at the same times every day but only if the customer has rung the night before to make the booking. If no one rings the taxi doesn't run.
