| Post subject: | Why is the Forth bridge red |
I got asked this by a customer this morning (as part of a general conversation on scottish tourist attractions) customer was on their way to pick up a train to Scotland. The best answer i could come up with is that it is required to as part of it's heritage status is that correct or can some of you scottish lads enlighten me further ? |

It's been painted in new rust proof paint which will last 25 years before it needs doing again. All the old paint has been blasted off and new paint added. |

Its because the steel and iron came from englandshire, and would not stand up to scotlandshire weather, and started to rot, so we started painting it in red oxide to stop that happening, after 500 coats the paint is stronger than the steel, especially since shuggy poured some iron bru into the mix |

you missunderstood the question with todays modern paints the bridge could be painted any colour and still withstand the weather in the firth of forth is there a particular reason the historical colour is retained other than for heritage purposes |
